Using settings.... import doesn't work. I just get a note with the raw text, it doesn't apply any of the MD symbols/tags. I have tried this from Mac and the Web. Maybe it only works on Windows?

Should work on web and desktop. Does the file have a .md extension?

Here is a very simple example that I've tried. The file name is `MarkdownTest.md`.

# Heading one

Hello

## Heading two

### Heading three

**bold text**

After import it looks exactly the same, no formatting or headers.

Very odd.... I think were talking in 2 places as well. I'll stick to here lol.

Just tried it on a few .md files and works OK. It does what you see when its a .txt file.

By any chance is the file .md.txt as sometimes saves when using notepad?

Here's a share with a .md file that works for me. Download it and let me know if it works. Download button should be top right.

I tried your file on Mac and on the Web in Chrome. In both cases it looks like this:

# Title

## Heading

### Heading

**bold text**

Very odd. Just booted up my Mac and tried it with that file and it works OK. Formatting is kept.

I'm using version 10.131.3. Check you're up to date.

If still not working send in a support ticket and let me have the ticket number and I'll see if I can flag it.

@Jon - thanks for the weekly post.

Regarding feedback on the possible premium options, here are my immediate random thoughts (not necessarily in any order or whatever) -

* monthly live AMA/EN recap via Google Meet or similar - could be interesting; based on my experience of attending various webinar-type events in the past, it does depend on a lot of preparation by the host with the ability to react to user input, The more successful ones I've seen have involved a host plus a co-host for handling user admittance, taking questions via a chat roll, etc. Are the users going to be visible on-screen and interacting or via online chat? How many users could be accommodated? Would a replay be available for those unable to attend "live"? (I'm unaware of the geographic distribution of your Substack contacts - presenting the session at say 7pm GMT in UK but not be conducive for others in different time zones...)

*Interviews with EN experts, etc - that would be v good

*Premium Chat feature - I agree that Discord is not the ideal tool from what I've seen; the only "issue" I have with chat features is availability - different people will have different times when they want to chat; who is the chat between? JonT and premium members 1-to-1? or between members? or what? I'm unclear how this might be used.

*high-level premium mentoring - might be useful for some people; I'd hope it would be an optional add-on that you could request for a set period, rather than an annual fee regardless of how much a member used it.

Those are my immediate off the top of my head thoughts - happy to discuss further if you want.

Thanks. Lots to think about.

Thinking about a Google Meet type thing each month where folks can interact through chat or ask questions in person. Would record and make available for all premium users. I can't imagine there would be 100s, maybe 10s of people.

Chat would be general premium community chat and I'm thinking of leaving it here on Substack as its pretty simple. Folks can respond, ask questions when they want. Similar to the chat now.

The mentoring think is just an idea right now and would probably come later as a separate plan... need to think a lot about that.

Hi Jon,

The premium Evernote channel idea is an interesting one, and i'd imagine that there's certainly a market out there for that space between general community forums and private coaching. I think its also important that content creators such as yourself feel that your time and effort is suitably rewarded.

I think Tim Stringer's excellent "Learn Omnifocus" site is a nice example of how your can build a community around a particular app. I was a member of that site for quite a while, but I think that over time I came to view it more as an excuse to fiddle around with the software than actually use it to get stuff done. In some ways I think that Evernote is becoming a little like OmniFocus in that sense - it's a piece of software that never quite gets out of the way. There's always some new feature (or bug) that disrupts my workflow. Having expert advice on how to manage some of that would great, but i'd imagine that it would be tricky for you not to let this new channel become glorified tech support where the discussion is dominated by people looking for the kind of assistance that Evernote itself is not willing or able to offer.

cheers,

Chris

Thanks. Lots of great info there and I'll take a looks at Tim's community.

I wanrt to stay away from a course as there are many of those around already but I wuite like the idea of 1-2-1 mentoring with folk who use EN as the base of their business organisation. Def don't want to become tech support lol.

Lots to think about. Thanks.

I wonder if something might have been lost in translation (from markdown...? ;-) )

You mentioned the ”keyboard shortcuts using CTRL + / or Command + /” – I wonder if that wasn't supposed to be ´ instead of /

At least that’s the shortcut in my app to bring out the shortcut panel in Evernote. The shortcut for the shortcut, so to say…

Interesting. Just tried on my PC and Mac and CTRL/Command + / opens the shortcuts.

Have you remapped the shortcut to ´ ?

I haven't to my knowledge remapped the shortcut. And in the shortcut commands panel it does show as cmd+/. However, when I press cmd+/ I get a saved search from my ”stared shortcuts” (not sure what they’re called in the English interface).

In the dropdown application menu it shows as cmd + ´ weirdly enough.

That’s in the macOS desktop app.

I wonder if there’s something in the Swedish translation/interface that got mangled.

And it shouldn't be any global shortcuts (eg from Raycast) that’s interfering, as Evernote does do something - just the wrong thing ;-)

I tried it in the web interface as well, there nothing happens with neither cmd+/ nor cmd+´(and I could find a way to open the shortcut command panel in the web interface)

That's very odd. Could be an language issue and shortcuts not showing.

Web doesn't have many shortcuts so I don;t think its available there.

Send in a support ticket if you get chance and I'll mention it on the expert forums, there's quite a few non-english language folk there.
