We’re a couple of weeks into 2024 so I thought I’d try and put together some sort of roadmap of what we could be seeing from Evernote over the next few months.
1) There are many fields and scroll down lists that does not include a memmory of Last field Value or Last selected record. It means that you need to reselect or write entry when you are repeating a task.
For example, when you want to move notes from a notebook to another.
2) As you said, yes, storing Searches in a search list is a must.
3) Another one, Evernote for Google Gmail complement by Evernote Corp. is too simple and searching for a notebook is only sorted alphabetically and not by pile. This in annoying because I have more than 250 notebooks sorted alphabetically. Should be sorted by pile and functionaly similar to web clipper which is very nice!!!
Agree, I think it could do better remembering things in general including sort orders in notebook lists. I hope this comes one day as you can already save a view for a notebook, just not the sort order.
I think some of the 3rd party integrations will get better once they've finished this big rewrite and they can work on a better API. Currently using the old one.
No plans for incorporating iCal in EN? That’s a disappointment, particularly if they add Outlook support and ignore Apple Calendars. Most Apple users stick to Apple apps—I don’t know how large a segment of the EN base involves Apple Users, but I imagine it must be quite large.
Why do you say that you can’t easily share individual notes? Using Shareable Links has existed for some time and it works great. Granted, it doesn’t offer password protection, but the link EN generates is so convoluted and long, I doubt anyone can guess it—though anyone that gets a hold of the link could access the note.
To each his own, but unless one has specific reasons to use other apps, the “free” apps that come with all Apple devices fulfill the needs of a majority of users.
I've not heard iCal mentioned but it would be useful. Not sure about the split between Mac & Win... I would imagine its very different from USA to Europe. USA tend to have a much higher %age of Apple users.
With sharing its more notebooks I'd like to share, publicly and privately. Many, many years ago you could but I think around 2012/14ish they took away the feature.
As I recall, ten years or so ago, it was next to impossible the share a note with anyone who didn’t have or set up an EN account. I may be wrong, but I recall being very frustrated trying to share notes with non-EN users and being unable to do so.
Nice summary, and some interesting changes are obviously coming. One thing you (and presumably they) didn't mention though - automation - I'd love to be able to set up an automatic filter to tag and move (forinstance) previously untagged forwarded notes from my default folder to wherever is appropriate; or just find shared notes with a specific email address and remove that address wherever it appears. Evernote is totally 'hands on' at the moment - it needs a person to drive it. I'd like to hand off some routine tasks to a 'bot of some kind!
I have for a while (years) been working on an Outlook type rules for Evernote so that you can automatically file notes based on various parameters such as text in the subject of email address note was received from. I’d be happy for Evernote to write this so I don’t have to!
I use Inoreader RSS reader and they have an amazing rules section where if almost anything happens, almost anything can happen! Including firing webhooks to external applications. Would love something like this.
Yes. Automations would be great. I remember having a conversation ages ago about maybe a 'rules' section in Evernote where if certain actions happened then a rule was applied and we could choose from multiple rules and actions.
EG. If a PDF gets emailed in with a title that contains "invoice" it then gets tagged bill and moved into an invoices notebook.
change font color hotkey, please,
wait a few second when writing notes and try to highlight my key thought in the paragraph,.
and this few second click would go up to 50-60 times in a hrs meeting / class...
some notebook app could do Ctrl + shift + H to change text, can evernote do similar stuff,?
thank you
Ctrl + shift + H should highlight but it only does the one colour. I've mentioned it as it should highlight by what colour is selected.
Something very simple.

I’m all Apple and don’t use any Apple apps. I’m aware that’s a survey of one (or two if you include yourself!)
I use Zoho calendar :) End up syncing it with Google so it appears in EN.

The one thing I would love Evernote to add would be the ability to pin a note to the top of a notebook. That’s it. Nothing more.
I've heard it mentioned more than once by folk. I'd love to see a right click option on a note for "pin to top". Multiple pinned notes as well.

Maybe I’ll bump it up my dev list😂
